This video tutorial introduces the FAO’s Land Characterization System software (LCHS), an ISO-compliant tool for creating and managing land cover legends using Land Cover Meta Language (LCML). It demonstrates how to prepare LCML-based legends through two detailed examples. The first example shows how to create a class for broad-leaved deciduous natural trees, including setting properties like horizontal pattern, stratum, and vegetation characteristics. The second example uses the legend wizard to add a class for apple orchards, highlighting cultivated vegetation settings and element characteristics. Both examples include steps for validating classes and exporting the completed legend in various file formats.
