Women play a crucial role in West Africa’s sardinella fisheries, supporting households and local economies through fish processing and trade. This video showcases women in The Gambia who rely on smoked sardinella, emphasizing their skills and the challenges they encounter. The Shared Sardinella Initiative, part of the EAF-Nansen Programme, promotes gender inclusion and sustainable fisheries practices to strengthen coastal communities in northwest Africa.

The EAF-Nansen Programme is a collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Norway, working with the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR). It aligns with FAO’s vision for Blue Transformation and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030).
