International Girls in ICT Day 2023:
This year and every year, ITU and partners work together to inspire and encourage girls to pursue a future in ICTs towards bridging the gender digital divide. The aim is to encourage young women and girls to pursue their studies and careers in science, engineering, technology, mathematics, and other fields and help them achieve their dreams.

This year, the theme of Girls in ICT Day is ‘Digital Skills for Life’. The global Girls in ICT event will be celebrated on 27 April in Zimbabwe as part of the Transform Africa Summit 2023 #TAS2023, in coordination and collaboration with the Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) and Smart Africa.

The global celebration will address different topics related to Digital Skills i.e., role models, education, mentorship, and youth participation. The events build onto the various initiatives of the ITU that not only seek to achieve digital gender equality but also would address the importance of education and connectivity.

Girls in ICT Day is now a global movement, with ITU partners and other organizations conducting their own events and celebrations on the Girls in ICT Day and throughout the year.

How to Calm Down Even if You're Absolutely, Totally Nuts by Fred Miller

Announcing the Anniversary Edition of Fred L. Miller's book, "How to Calm Down Even if You're Absolutely, Totally Nuts."

Read the first chapter here.

The title says it all. Being calm has grown increasingly more difficult to practice. Fred Miller is an author and teacher. The 25 years he spent in television production in both blue-collar and white-collar jobs was a life that drove him absolutely nuts until he learned to calm down. He has written for prime-time network television and produced and directed documentary and educational films. His stint at a large New York advertising agency is what almost drove him over the edge.

I'm not your inspiration, thank you very much by Stella Young

Stella Young is a comedian and journalist who happens to go about her day in a wheelchair — a fact that doesn't, she'd like to make clear, automatically turn her into a noble inspiration to all humanity. In this very funny talk, Young breaks down society's habit of turning disabled people into "inspiration porn."

The Heart of Sustainability by Ilarion Merculieff

Indigenous peoples who have intimate and sustained contact with their lands and waters and who have maintained the spiritual basis for relating to everything in their environment have a profound understanding of what "sustainability" really means even though that is not the word that they would use. Western concepts of sustainability generally are used out of meaningful context, limiting the depth to which we can go collectively and as a society in restoring harmony in our relationship with Mother Earth. Indigenous elders worldwide say that one day the world will look to indigenous peoples for the wisdom in caring for our Earth Mother, and many feel the time is NOW as her life supporting systems are being pushed to the edge of viability.
