About This Collection

Founder Kenny Ausubel coined the term Bioneers in 1990 to describe an emerging culture. Bioneers are social and scientific innovators from all walks of life and disciplines who have peered deep into the heart of living systems to understand how nature operates, and to mimic "nature's operating instructions" to serve human ends without harming the web of life.

The Bioneers Conference is a leading-edge forum presenting breakthrough solutions for people and planet. Check out Bioneers on YouTube.

Janine Benyus – Becoming a Welcome Species: Biomimicry and the Art of Generous Design

Janine Benyus, the "Godmother of Biomimicry," and her team at Biomimicry 3.8 advocate for humans to become "gift-givers" to the planet. They demonstrate how to design settlements—cities, villages, and homes—that replicate the ecological benefits of natural wildlands.

Benyus envisions cities functioning like forests, managing water, air, nutrients, and biodiversity. Through "Project Positive" initiatives, Biomimicry 3.8 shows this regenerative vision is achievable by asking: "What would Nature do here?"
