Redesigning the fashion industry: jeans
September 12, 2019
Every second, the equivalent of one garbage truck of textiles is landfilled or burned. An estimated USD 500 billion value is lost every year due to clothing being barely worn and rarely recycled. If nothing changes, by 2050 the fashion industry will use up a quarter of the world’s carbon budget. However, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation has the ambition to ensure clothes are made from safe and renewable materials, that new business models increase their use, and old clothes are turned into new. How do you change a whole industry? Where do you start? In this session, we will take the example of the jeans industry and bring together actors from across the whole supply chain who are disrupting and transforming the life cycle of jeans. Discover how they are transitioning to a circular system and the benefits for businesses, the planet, and society.
