About This Collection

Founder Kenny Ausubel coined the term Bioneers in 1990 to describe an emerging culture. Bioneers are social and scientific innovators from all walks of life and disciplines who have peered deep into the heart of living systems to understand how nature operates, and to mimic "nature's operating instructions" to serve human ends without harming the web of life.

The Bioneers Conference is a leading-edge forum presenting breakthrough solutions for people and planet. Check out Bioneers on YouTube.

Enric Sala - Protecting Our Life Support System: Challenges and Opportunities in Marine Conservation

Enric Sala, a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, launched the Pristine Seas project in 2008. This initiative explores and inspires protection for the ocean's last wild places, crucial for global marine ecosystems. Sala, a former professor, leads a team of scientists and conservationists dedicated to this mission.

Pristine Seas combines exploration, research, and media, helping establish 25 of the world's largest marine reserves. These protected areas now cover over 6.5 million square kilometers. Sala emphasizes the critical importance of healthy oceans for humanity's future. This talk was delivered at the 2022 Bioneers Conference. Learn more at http://www.bioneers.org.
