This B Corp Global Climate Summit session, part of the Day 2 Africa Regional Session, explores the circular economy. This model aims to eliminate waste, boost resource productivity, and redefine how we design and reuse resources. With food waste alone contributing 3.3 billion tonnes of CO2 annually, and the linear economy's flaws exposed by COVID-19, the circular economy offers a new paradigm with an estimated $4.5 trillion annual economic potential by 2030.

The session will delve into applying circular principles to food waste management, how businesses adopt circularity for resilience, and real-world company case studies. It will also discuss the circular economy's potential for a green post-pandemic recovery. Speakers include Grace Wachori, Martha Nalweyiso, Matt Homewood, Daniel Chege, and Rita Atuti.

Rowan Byrne, a Marine Biologist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, will discuss ocean plastics, explaining their impact on marine life and civilization. His extensive career includes shark research, sea turtle conservation, and pioneering satellite tracking of leatherback turtles from Dominica to Ireland.

As Marine Plastics Lead for Mott MacDonald, Rowan drives global research and solutions for marine plastic challenges. He champions collaboration with industry and governments to integrate environmental considerations. His work earned him the IEMA Sustainability Leader of the Year Award in 2020 and media recognition for installing Seabins at Howth Harbour.

The U.S. faces a critical energy dilemma: immediate fossil fuel needs, exacerbated by global crises, conflict with the urgent scientific imperative to rapidly reduce production to avert climate catastrophe. Fossil fuel companies' claims of decarbonization are unsubstantiated, given their history of obstructing climate action.

Climate politics expert Kate Aronoff explores how policymakers must expand their toolkit to manage an orderly decline of the fossil fuel era, fostering a collective stake in our energy future.

The energy transition is critical, with the 2020s marking a decisive decade for climate justice. As fossil fuels peak, we must rapidly scale renewables, ensuring an equitable new energy economy.

The energy transition is critical, with the 2020s marking a decisive decade for climate justice. As fossil fuels peak, we must rapidly scale renewables, ensuring an equitable new energy economy. Visionary "green" entrepreneur Danny Kennedy, founder of New Energy Nexus, proposes a "3D" clean energy future: distributed, decentralized in ownership, and democratized in control, driven by global grassroots entrepreneurship.

Kennedy, a seasoned eco-activist and clean-tech leader, co-founded Sungevity and Powerhouse. He now serves as CEO of New Energy Nexus, a global nonprofit providing funds, accelerators, and networks to advance clean energy innovation and adoption worldwide.

Taylor McKinnon, an accidental artist and dedicated activist, serves as the Southwest Director for the Center for Biological Diversity. He oversees efforts to protect wildlands and endangered species, spearheading campaigns to end federal fossil fuel leasing and ban uranium mining around the Grand Canyon.

In this artist talk, McKinnon explores nature photography as a practice of natural history, intertwining observation, art, love, and activism. He will discuss his process in the field and Lightroom, including the compositional freedom of long lenses and developing a minimalist style absent art theory. The fight against climate change is deeply linked with digital rights, as advocates face surveillance and censorship while information flow is controlled by large corporations. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) actively protects these rights, aiding environmental activists with security and privacy.

EFF Executive Director Cindy Cohn, a leading Internet law attorney, will explain how EFF's advocacy for open access to scientific information, net neutrality, and open source technologies is critical in preventing climatic unraveling.
