Data centers are significant energy consumers. By designing them for flexibility, their power demand can align with the availability of clean energy on the grid. Non-urgent computing tasks can be paused or accelerated, allowing data centers to slow down when renewables are scarce and speed up when abundant, transforming them into valuable grid assets.

Professor Ayse Coskun, Chief Scientist at Emerald AI and a Boston University professor, is a leader in this emerging field of flexible, grid-aware computing. Her research applies AI and machine learning to optimize cloud systems, making this innovative approach a real-world solution.

Inaam Chattha, who experienced eco-anxiety as a teen, channeled his concern into environmental activism, volunteering, and exploring the intersection of race, land, grief. Now a medical student, he authored children's books on eco-emotions and was named a Top 25 Under 25 Environmentalist by Starfish Canada.

In 2023, Chattha launched Green Mind, a national, youth-led initiative. It provides culturally grounded educational materials and a bilingual Climate Wellness Toolkit to help young people, especially from underrepresented communities, cope with climate anxiety and take action. The toolkit is used in Ontario classrooms for somatic grounding, journaling, and peer connection.

Now a pillar of 5G and beyond mobile networks, network slicing delivers differentiated services with stringent requirements. Despite significant research over two decades, its end-to-end deployment remains unrealized. This talk covered its genesis, evolution, key challenges, solutions, and the outlook for 5G+ network slicing.
