Beit T'Suvah is a Los Angeles-based addiction rehabilitation center. It helps individuals find meaning and purpose in recovery through spiritual guidance and connection with a higher power. Each resident receives support from a spiritual counselor.

Skills for the green and digital transition Future skills requirements in the age of emerging tech

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, two sessions will address critical future skills. The first, from 09:30 to 10:45, explores "Skills for the green and digital transition," examining their interconnected impacts on jobs, skills, and policy for a just transition.

The second session, from 11:15 to 12:30, focuses on "Future skills requirements in the age of emerging technologies." It will analyze how new technologies, especially AI, are reshaping the workplace and skill demands across industries, and consider effective policy responses.

Both sessions feature expert moderators and panelists from diverse international organizations, offering insights into these crucial topics for the future of work.

Digital skills for jobs followed by Industry perspective on skills needs

On September 18, 2024, two sessions will explore the critical impact of digital transformation on jobs and skills. The first, "Digital skills for jobs," will address global challenges and opportunities, focusing on strategies to enhance workforce skills for diverse demographics. Experts from the International Labour Organization (ILO), Stanford, and other organizations will discuss best practices for digital skills development.

The second session, "Industry perspective on skills needs," will feature leaders from companies like Microsoft, Huawei, and SAP. They will discuss core skills for digital transformation, identify growth sectors, and share how companies adapt through skilling programs and talent acquisition. This aims to inform policymakers and training institutions on market demands.

Following this, from 15:45 to 17:00, "Skills for a safe and secure use of digital technologies and online information" addresses the escalating concerns of cybersecurity threats, misinformation, and online violence. Experts will discuss strategies and best practices for digital education and skills development to mitigate these risks, ensuring safer online engagement. Both sessions feature expert moderators and panelists.

National digital skills frameworks for policymaking

Join us for "National digital skills frameworks for policymaking" on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, from 15:45 – 17:00. This session addresses the critical need for data on digital skills demand, supply, and gaps to develop effective national policies and strategies.

It will explore existing frameworks, concepts, and measurement tools, providing practical guidelines and country examples. The goal is to help nations assess skills levels, identify needs, and design impactful digital skills interventions and strategies.

Moderated by Dr. Susan Teltscher, the session features expert panelists. Resources include: ITU Digital Skills Toolkit 2024, Enhancing metrics for measuring digital skills, and Azerbaijan: Digital Skills Assessment 2023-2024.

Bridging the digital skills divide

The session "Bridging the digital skills divide" will take place on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, from 14:00 – 15:15. It addresses the critical lack of digital knowledge and skills, a primary barrier to Internet use and closing the digital divide.

The discussion will explore the needs of specific groups, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, farmers, and women in rural communities, who face significant usage gaps. Experts will highlight intergenerational skill disparities and present successful digital initiatives.

The session aims to identify concrete actions, solutions, and tools for inclusive digital capacity development, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Opening Ceremony featured prominent figures from government and telecommunications. H.E. Mr. Mohamed bin Thamer AlKaabi, Bahrain's Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, delivered opening remarks. He was joined by Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau, and Mr. Philip Marnick, General Director of Bahrain's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
