It's time for the big food redesign...#shorts

Transitioning to a circular economy for food involves redesigning systems to benefit people, nature, and climate. Food brands and supermarkets can achieve this by rethinking ingredients and production methods, allowing nature to thrive.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, an international charity, champions the circular economy concept. Driven by design, it eliminates waste and pollution, circulates products and materials, and regenerates nature.

The argument made by climate change deniers

This text outlines the core arguments of climate change deniers, presented in a concise forty-four-second format.

Such a brief summary typically highlights key points, often simplifying complex scientific discussions.

The aim is to quickly convey their perspective.

"It's not that I don't think these problems are big or that they're urgent, but I can start to see that these problems are solvable." Data scientist Hannah Ritchie, a self-proclaimed "urgent enthusiast," counters climate doomerism with this hopeful message. In her full Big Think interview, Ritchie, a Senior Researcher at Oxford and Deputy Editor at Our World in Data, explores a wide range of critical environmental topics.

She delves into climate change solutions, sustainable food systems, plastic waste, and population dynamics, offering pragmatic perspectives. For more, subscribe to Big Think on YouTube or read the full transcript here. Ritchie is also the author of "Not the End of the World."

ABOUT UPCOMING SCREENING of film, Mrs Robinson
We are reaching out to invite you to a screening of the documentary Mrs. Robinson on Friday, November 14th, at 7PM EST/4PM PST. You can register here to participate on our streaming site, Kinema at earthsayerscinema.com. You will receive a confirmation email from Kinema. Learn from the woman who broke glass ceilings and took on the challenge of leaving no one behind.

“MRS ROBINSON” chronicles Mary Robinson's half-century fight for justice and equality, told in her own words. It illuminates her battles on the streets, in courts, at the ballot box, and in corridors of power.

A reforming constitutional lawyer and senator, Mary made history as Ireland's President in 1990. She then served as UN High Commissioner, fearlessly challenging human rights abuses worldwide. Today, she chairs The Elders, an independent group founded by Nelson Mandela, dedicated to peace and human rights.

Directed by Aoife Kelleher and produced by Loosehorse, “MRS ROBINSON” was funded by Fís Éireann /Screen Ireland and the Utah Film Center. Pat Mitchell is among the executive producers.

Is Human Survival Possible?

In this excerpt from "The Interview of the Century," hosted by Guy Lane, Michael Dowd and Peter Fiekowsky discuss preventing a catastrophic climate crisis. The full interview is available at VitaSapien.org.

Can We Mitigate a Methane Burst?

The Arctic's thawing ice threatens to release vast methane hydrate stores, a gas 84 times more potent than CO2. This potential tipping point could dangerously spike atmospheric heating.

Peter Fiekowsky and Peter Wadhams propose enhancing natural methane oxidation with Iron Chloride, a method explained in Fiekowsky's book, *Climate Restoration: The Only Future that will Sustain the Human Race*. Funding this planetary "life insurance" is critical.

For more information, visit the Climate Restoration Safety and Governance Board, order Fiekowsky's book, explore Peter Wadhams' Ted Talk and book, or consult the FacingFuture Library.

Healing the Earth, The Real Work of Our Time

Eco restoration is vital for life on Earth. John D. Liu's Commonland Foundation spearheads 55 large-scale global projects.

In Egypt, Siham Said (Habiba), Maximilian Abouleish-Boes (SEKEM), and Naglaa Ahmed (Egyptian Biodynamic Association) demonstrate success, reviving hydrological cycles and ecological function on dried land. Two thousand Egyptian farmers actively restore nature, store carbon, and develop sustainable organic agriculture, often via carbon credits—a stark contrast to COP27.

Beyond Maladaptation

Many global projects claiming climate change adaptation often raise human rights concerns and carry significant carbon and ecological footprints. A truly effective approach requires breaking with past assumptions, moving beyond systems that exacerbated the crisis, and addressing worsening scenarios and psychological impacts.

We must support those restoring our planet's natural balance, such as Dr. Stella Nyambura Mbau, who champions regenerative agroforestry. Dr. Lisa Schipper, who coined "maladaptation" to describe inadequate climate responses, highlights vulnerabilities and barriers in developing countries.

What's Happening at COP15?

At the COP15 Biodiversity Conference in Montreal, John D. Liu, Paul Beckwith, Raya Salter, and Dale Walkonen provided an update. They discussed the #30by30 proposal, which aims to conserve 30% of the world's lands and oceans for nature by 2030. Key questions regarding implementation, governance, indigenous involvement, and funding remain unresolved.

Addressing the Climate Crisis requires restoring natural systems. The final agreement, crucial for this effort, is being finalized and expected by Friday, December 19th.

Transformative Adaptation

While avoiding climate change is no longer possible, we can still limit its worst impacts. Many feel overwhelmed by planetary grief and anxiety. Our colleague, Rupert Read, advocates for realism and transformative adaptation.

Passivity is no longer an option. It's time to unite in protest and build communities of activists. For further information on our planet's state, visit the FacingFuture Library.

Can the Grid Handle the Transition to Electric Energy?

The transition to wind and solar electricity presents a daunting challenge, requiring significant new transmission lines and battery storage. This must occur as storms and heat waves intensify and become more frequent.

Physicist Sascha von Meier, an electric grid specialist, believes this transition is feasible. However, communities must simultaneously prepare to protect people as climate change accelerates.

For more information on our planet's state, visit the FacingFuture Library. Hosted by Dale Walkonen, edited by Glenn Goodwin.

Building Healthy Housing for the Planet

Buildings are major contributors to carbon emissions. This discussion explores innovative construction methods that actively sequester carbon, utilize fewer damaging materials, and significantly reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling.

Join architects Chris Magwood, author of *Building Beyond Zero*, and Lloyd Alter, author of *Living the 1.5 Degree Lifestyle*, alongside Mike Coe, designer of energy-efficient homes, as they delve into exciting developments in sustainable architecture.

Sea Ice in Crisis with Peter Wadhams and Patrick Hogan

Sea ice is melting at both poles. New technology reveals rugged undersides of Antarctic ice shelves, accelerating their melt from warm water. Scientists Peter Wadhams and Patrick Hogan explain that this massive ice loss shifts Earth's mass, increasing tectonic activity and altering ocean currents, with significant implications for sea-level rise.

We must abandon linear thinking for exponential climate changes. Coastal communities face growing danger; rebuilding oceanfront areas after increasingly powerful storms is unsustainable. This increased tectonic activity also raises earthquake likelihood.

Why Equality is Essential for Survival

Inequality fuels societal discontent, fostering an obsession with wealth and status, as Richard Wilkinson explains in his TED Talk. This focus on production and consumption erodes trust and community, replacing collective concern.

To foster change, we must build more equal societies and repair ecosystems. John D. Liu and Marteen Klop propose new communities centered on equality and common purpose. Global EcoRestoration projects, like Ecosystem Restoration Camps, cultivate a collective intelligence and vital connectedness to nature and each other, essential for survival.

Al Gore's Warning at The World Economic Forum

Al Gore criticized leaders at the January 2023 Davos forum for climate inaction, emphasizing how fossil fuel-based economies are pushing us toward the IPCC's worst scenarios. Daily, 16 million tons of greenhouse gases enter the troposphere, a number that continues to climb.

While we appreciate Gore's vital passion, it's also crucial to address animal agriculture alongside fossil fuel reduction.
