From Plastic to Hope | Andoni Alvarez Helling | TEDxTulum

Plastic pollution presents a global challenge. A new non-catalytic pyrolysis technology, grounded in thermodynamics and quantum mechanics, offers an innovative solution. This process transforms plastic waste into powerful fuels, fundamentally shifting our approach to plastic, waste, and energy.

The underlying principle is that all plastic can be repurposed by converting matter and energy. Driven by a passion for social impact, Andoni leads Petgas, a Mexican startup. Petgas is developing this technology and market to convert plastic waste into clean, potent fuels.

This concept was presented at an independently organized TEDx event. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx.

Lithium Wars #4 — Thacker Pass

A massive proposed lithium mine at Thacker Pass, Nevada, is being fast-tracked by federal and state agencies. This $1.3 billion project promises tens of billions in profit, but it faces strong opposition due to its devastating potential impacts.

The mine threatens to pollute local streams, smother Lahontan cutthroat trout spawning grounds with radioactive sediment, block Pronghorn antelope migration routes, and destroy Greater sage-grouse habitat. Local communities could suffer acid rain, ancient cultural sites face desecration, and this quiet wilderness would become an industrialized zone. This project exemplifies a critical conflict between profit and planet.
