Target Shooting in the Sonoran Desert National Monument

The Sonoran Desert National Monument, a biodiverse haven for endangered species, is severely damaged by target shooting. Despite the Bureau of Land Management's own findings of harm to wildlife, Indigenous sites, and human health, 90% of this precious area is now littered with toxic lead ammo and makeshift targets, destroying ancient saguaros and petroglyphs. The Center for Biological Diversity works to protect such vital lands and species from extinction.

As a 501c3 nonprofit, we believe human welfare is deeply linked to nature's diversity. Learn more, take action, and support our mission at biologicaldiversity.org. For inquiries, email center@biologicaldiversity.org.

The SDGs are your business | Generalist, or specialist? Join the discussion.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are critical for every business, whether generalist or specialist. Achieving genuine progress requires "generalized specialists" – organizations balancing deep impact on specific goals with broader awareness to avoid unproductive tradeoffs. This concept, explored by B Lab's Insights team and B Corp leaders, is framed by a recent research paper.

With only eight years left, businesses must act. Discover practical tools and exercises to enhance your SDG impact. Read the full research paper: Handbook on the Business of Sustainability. Explore B Lab's SDG Insights Report and practical tools like the SDG Action Manager and B Impact Assessment.

Wildfire and Recovery (A report from the site of the 2021 Bootleg Fire in Southern Oregon)

Wildfires are distressing, yet a biocentric perspective reveals they are primarily climate-driven, not fuel-driven. This means landscape-scale forest thinning and prescribed burns are largely ineffective at reducing fire spread or intensity, a view supported by experts like George Wuerthner.

Fires are often used as an excuse for logging, whether for "fuels management" or "salvage." However, burned forests are vital carbon sinks and biodiverse habitats that should be allowed to recover naturally, as logging is detrimental.

For further insight, explore this [interview with Ralph Bloemers on fire ecology](https://resistanceradioprn.podbean.com/e/resistance-radio-guest-ralph-bloemers/) and George Wuerthner's [article on wildfires](https://www.counterpunch.org/2022/08/08/yet-another-misleading-piece-on-wildfires-from-the-new-york-times/).
