'NASA Space Recordings Of Earth'

Our Universe Is Not Silent~

Although space is a vacuum, this does not mean there is no sound in space.
Sound does exist as electromagnetic vibrations.

The specially designed instruments on board the Voyager and other probes, picked up and recorded these vibrations, all within the range of human hearing (20-20,000 cycles per second).

Systems Thinking and Sustainability by Dr. Fritjof Capra

Svetlana Chernikova Memorial Lecture:

This recording begins with a slideshow of the late Dr. Svetlana Chernikova, professor and environmental leader from St. Petersburg, Russia. An introduction follows by Dr. Robin Marsh of UC Berkeley presenting highlights of Svetlana's life and career. Next, Angelina Davydova, who is an environmental journalist and professor at St. Petersburg State University, and the first Svetlana Chernikova Fellow to attend the Environmental Leadership Program at UC Berkeley, speaks about the new and growing community-based, environmental and political activism in Russia. Dr. Fritjof Capra, Founder of the Center for Ecoliteracy, presents the keynote lecture on Systems Thinking and Sustainability. The lecture presents an evolution of systems thinking in Europe over time, with a focus on the less well-known but crucial contributions of Russian scientists. Dr. Capra then links systems thinking with the concepts of economic and social sustainability. He ends with an examination of the main components for achieving sustainability on our planet. Among these are collaborative leadership and inter-sectoral social networking for which Dr. Svetlana Chernikova was widely known. Dr. Capra challenges us all to carry out Svetlana's legacy through our individual and collective contributions to sustainability. Published on Sep 10, 2012

Our Idea of the Environment by Severn Cullis-Suzuki
Static Preview

Daughter of famed Canadian scientist, David Suzuki, Severn Cullis-Suzuki developed a deep connection to nature at an early age. In this lecture, she discusses her personal evolution as an environmentalist as well as reminding us that we have become so 'disconnected' from the natural world -- that unequivocally sustains us -- that our arrogance and ignorance has put us on the brink of planetary disaster. She provokes us to consider our individual consumptive impact on the planet and to explore ways to reduce our personal ecological footprint.

Speaking on Behalf of Children by Severn Cullis-Suzuki
Static Preview

Raised in Vancouver and Toronto, Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been camping and hiking all her life. When she was 9 she started the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. They were successful in many projects before 1992, when they raised enough money to go to the UN's Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Their aim was to remind the decision-makers of who their actions or inactions would ultimately affect. The goal was reached when 12 yr old Severn closed a 1992 Plenary Session with a powerful speech that received a standing ovation.

Here she is again nearly twenty years later addressing our understanding or lack thereof about our environment.
