Portland, Oregon: Train Tankers and Tar Sands Oil

A look at what crosses the Steel Bridge (built in 1910) here in Portland, Oregon a few miles from my home. Is that crude oil in those tankers? As citizens we need to start asking questions that will make our leaders uncomfortable as they may not even be aware of where and when crude oil is moved through urban areas. Produced and written by Ruth Ann Barrett for her YouTube Channel, PDXDowntownerPublished on Apr 2, 2015

Please note:
The New York Times documentary, A Danger on the Rails, addresses the issue in terms of Albany, New York and is in the EarthSayers.tv collection, High Risk Energy Alternatives here. Published on April 22, 2015.

Worklife and Friendship by Ruth Ann Barrett

A short video put together after attending the 2014 Annual Conference of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) in March, 2014 in Washington, D.C. As a chairwoman of the National Conference on Women in Public Adminsitration in 1975 and at the invitation of Nancy Foye-Cox and with support from Sally Gutierrez, I moderated a wisdom cirlce of women ASPA leaders, attended the keynote speech by Dr. Bernise Sandler, the "godmother of Title IX" and celebrated the award to Nancy Foye-Cox of the Marcia P. Crowley Award for service to the Section on Women in Public Adminstration (SWPA). It is the friendship of myself, Sally and Nancy which forms the wisdom of friendship in one's worklife and hopefully puts to rest once and for all the idea that women do not support other women at work.

Sustainability and Externalizing Costs by John Fullerton
Static PreviewSustainability - John Fullerton of the Capital Institute talks about his journey from Wall Street to being a sustainability advocate. An early influence in his understanding of the sustainability crisis was the work of Herman Daly's book, For the Common Good: Redirecting the Economy toward Community, the Environment, and a Sustainable Future. John discusses "externalities" and the unsustainable practice of externalizing costs and risks, both social and environmental. The most dramatic and recent example of this practice is the BP oil spill.
John Fullerton was interviewed by Ruth Ann Barrett of EarthSayers.tv, the voices of sustainability in San Francisco, California on October 7, 2010.
