Nearly 800 million people lack sufficient food, and two billion suffer from micronutrient deficiencies. As the global population grows, food production must dramatically increase. Our oceans offer a powerful solution: by restoring them, we can feed the world.

Fish are a "perfect protein"—nutritious, inexpensive to produce, and require no farmland or freshwater. A fully restored ocean could sustainably provide a healthy fish meal daily for over one billion people. We can achieve this by implementing three basic steps in just 25 countries: managing catch and protecting vital habitats.

Sadie-Phoenix Lavoie, a 22-year-old Anishnabe woman from Sagkeeng First Nation, co-chairs the Onjisay Aki Youth Climate Summit. She is pursuing a BA in Indigenous Studies at the University of Winnipeg, serves as VP External for the UW Students' Association, and co-founded Red Rising Magazine.

The First Peoples-led Onjisay Aki Youth Climate Summit was held at Turtle Lodge from September 16-19, 2016. On International Peace Day eve (September 21, 2016), participating youth released a spiritually-informed statement for international peace and healing.

Global Fishing Watch (GFW), a free online tool from Oceana, SkyTruth, and Google, reveals the apparent fishing activity of over 35,000 commercial vessels globally. Regularly updated with data since 2012, GFW publicly shares vital information to enhance ocean health, support fishery management, and combat illegal fishing. This revolutionary tool empowers governments, journalists, and citizens to track vessels, enforce rules, and protect marine ecosystems.

GFW uses public Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, collected by satellite and terrestrial receivers. Over 20 million data points are added daily, enabling GFW to track vessel movement and classify it as "fishing" or "non-fishing" activity.

On November 28, 2015, at Turtle Lodge in Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba, Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers presented The Great Binding Law. This significant presentation, led by Anishinabe, Nehetho (Cree), and Dakota representatives, responded to the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs' request for guidance on the National Energy Board's pipeline proposals.

The Elders, including Oshoshko Bineshiikwe (Blue Thunderbird Woman) and Nii Gaani Aki Inini (Dave Courchene), shared their wisdom. A video of part of their presentation is available, though sacred ceremonies were not recorded. Symon Ptashnick filmed the event.

Troubled by the lack of youth voices in Virginia climate policy, Dyanna Jaye co-founded the Virginia Student Environmental Coalition (VSEC) after the 2013 Power Shift convergence. VSEC's mission is to cultivate and elevate student voices in state-level decision-making, addressing specific challenges like coastline erosion and mountaintop removal mining.

As VSEC's first chair, Jaye established its structure and partnerships. Early actions included critiquing the Governor’s Energy Plan and hosting the 2015 Student Power Lobby Day to advocate for the Virginia Coastal Protection Act. Now active on 11 Virginia college campuses, VSEC continues to ensure students are heard on environmental policy.

This resolution, supporting climate justice work, was unanimously accepted. It strengthened the EBCI's commitment to climate justice in solidarity with all Indigenous Peoples and the People's Climate Movement.
